The Aeronautics Committee was created on Oct. 21, 1946. Initial appointments are for three-year terms. The membership of the committee consists of the mayor, airport director, city engineer, three aldermen and three appointed citizens.

The Aeronautics Committee manages Quincy Regional Airport, focusing on Essential Air Service contract negotiations, infrastructure upgrades, T-hangar leases and funding for improvements. It advises the City Council on airline reliability, terminal studies and grant applications to the Federal Aviation Administration/Illinois Department of Transportation.

Key responsibilities of the committee are:

  • Reviews bids from air carriers to provide service to hubs, ensuring reliability and addressing passenger satisfaction.
  • Oversees airport improvements, including terminal feasibility studies, hangar construction and runway projects.
  • Manages aviation fuel tax grants and airport-related budgeting.
  • A sub-committee specifically reviews policies and procedures regarding T-hangar leases.
