IDOT District 6, Construction
IDOT District 6, Construction
Published on September 22, 2025
SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced an almost $15 million improvement project on Broadway Street in Quincy from 12th Street to 38th Street. The main improvements include resurfacing, traffic signal upgrades and sidewalk/ADA improvements. Work is scheduled to begin later this month or early October on the sidewalks and curbs with the other improvements slated to start this fall.
Traffic signal upgrades will be at the intersections of 24th, 25th, 30th, 33rd and 36th streets. Traffic may be limited to one lane in each direction. Access to side streets will be limited during this project. Cones, drums and flaggers will be utilized for traffic control. A portion of the work items will be completed at night. The project is expected to take about a year to complete.
“By upgrading sidewalks and resurfacing Broadway Street, we are working to improve this vital corridor for all modes of transportation,” said Teresa Price, IDOT Region 4 Engineer. “As we work on these improvements over the next year, please slow down in work zones, stay off of mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.”
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered.
Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve more than 3,200 miles of highway and nearly 9 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Six of Rebuild Illinois include almost $20.8 billion of improvements statewide on 7,897 miles of highway, 815 bridges and 1,181 additional safety improvements.
