2025
2025 Firefighter of the Year
Firefighter Scott Haden
This year’s recipient of the 2025 Firefighter of the Year award began his career with the Quincy Fire Department on March 27, 2006. Prior to joining the department, he was a member of Explorer Post 104 and the Liberty, Illinois Fire Department.
Scott came to the Quincy Fire Department already holding his Firefighter II certification and Illinois EMT license. Since that time, he has continued to advance his training, earning his Firefighter III certification, Fire Apparatus Engineer, Fire Officer I, Instructor I, and Airport Firefighter certifications, as well as obtaining his Illinois Paramedic license.
When we discussed this year’s candidates for Firefighter of the Year, one point was raised repeatedly — no one fully realizes how much Scott contributes to his crew, his shift, and the department until they have the opportunity to work alongside him day after day.
Scott has held the position of Engineer on Engine 2 since October 5, 2021 and takes this role very seriously. He frequently works with new firefighters, sharing his deep knowledge of the apparatus and helping them strengthen their fireground skills.
It was also noted that Scott tends to operate quietly, “under the radar,” within the department. I couldn’t agree more. He doesn’t do what he does for recognition, but out of genuine dedication to his fellow firefighters and to the department. His commitment, professionalism, and humble leadership make him a truly deserving recipient of the 2025 Firefighter of the Year award.
