Forestry

The City of Quincy is proud to have been named Tree City USA for nearly 40 years. The Forestry Department has an inventory of over 18,000 trees throughout the city, which is maintained through a program of removals and trimming. All work is handled either through your alderman/alderwoman or Central Services

When available, the city offers a Fall, tree-planting program in which a variety of trees can be purchased at a reduced rate. The tree will then be planted on the right of way in front of your residence. For more information on purchasing a tree, please call the Department of Planning & Development, 217-228-4515.

The city offers a site where residents can drop off yard waste and tree limbs at no charge. Periodically, the Forestry Department has a crew that chips brush at curbside. This is intended for cleanup of storm damage of city trees and small limbs from yards. Limbs need to be piled neatly at curbside. Other yard waste needs to be put in a biodegradable paper bag capable of withstanding all types of weather. Bags may be purchased locally and placed at curbside. See our Yard Waste Collection page for more details.
