The committee for the Bring Events To Quincy (BET on Q) grant program and the Legacy Event Grant Program (LEGUP) grant program consists of nine voting members appointed by the mayor with advice and consent of the Quincy City Council. Questions regarding the BET on Q or LEGUP programs can be directed to the Department of Planning and Development at (217) 228-4515 or p&d@quincyil.gov.

A goal of the City of Quincy’s 45x30 Program is to increase tourism and to attract new residents and visitors to the community. The city can aid those efforts by providing financial support for local events. Potential benefits include more people eating in local restaurants, shopping in local stores and staying in local hotels, which equates to more jobs, an increase in tax revenue and a reduced burden on local taxpayers.

BET on Q has $150,000 available to help fund local events, reducing the financial risk event organizers take on when they plan for a small or large-scale event, be it new or existing. The city of Quincy will invest a portion of the revenue from the 1% food/beverage tax it collects into the BET on Q program.

Grants distributed through the BET on Q Grant Program can be used to expand an existing event in the city of Quincy, which could include but are not limited to:

  • Adding an additional day/night to the existing event
  • Adding more acts/performers to an event
  • Attracting higher quality acts/performers to an event
  • Or to create a new event in the city of Quincy, which could include but are not limited to:
  • A one-day concert
  • A week-long festival
  • A traveling sports tournament
  • A convention/conference

Priority will be given to an application based on the estimated drawing power of the event, with added emphasis on drawing power outside of the city of Quincy and the surrounding area. Priority also will be given to an application that agrees to share a percentage of the net profits from their event with the BET on Q grant program.

All events receiving a BET on Q grant must take place within city limits.

The minimum BET on Q Grant is $1,000 while the maximum BET on Q Grant is $25,000. Requests for more than $25,000 should be made to the City Council.

A funding request from the BET on Q grant program should not exceed 30% of the total budget for the event. Requests exceeding 30% of the total budget will be considered based on the event draw/reach.

A completed BET on Q application must be received 90 days prior to the event. They can be hand-delivered to City Hall (730 Maine) or through the mail (USPS, UPS, FedEx). Electronic submissions will be allowed with prior approval by the city.

BET on Q grants will be offered on a first-come/first-serve basis. No event can receive more than two BET on Q grants.

The LEGUP program provides $100,000 from food and beverage tax revenues to support, sustain and events that are ineligible for the BET on Q program. The minimum LEGUP grant is $1,000 while the maximum LEGUP grant is $10,000. No event can receive more than two LEGUP grants.
