Department of Public Works

The Central Services Department provides services that are vital to the day-to-day operation of Quincy. These services include the oversight of garbage collection and maintenance of recycling drop-off sites, forestry services, maintenance of City-owned vehicles and machinery, maintenance of traffic signs, striping of streets and painting of curbs, and repair of streets and sidewalks.

The Engineering Department provides engineering and technical services related to the maintenance and replacement of the City's streets, sidewalks, city-owned parking lots, and right-of-ways. The Engineering Department is also responsible for the maintenance of traffic signals, the oversight of three closed City-owned landfills, issuing of permits related to streets, sidewalks, right-of-way, and floodways, maintenance of City-owned decorative streetlighting, issuing of addresses, maintenance of the City's Geographical Information System (GIS), and many other related services.

The Department of Utilities is responsible for the treatment and distribution of the city’s drinking water and the treatment and discharge of sewage and storm water. This includes the operation and maintenance of the water and sewer treatment plants, maintenance and repair of all underground water and sewer infrastructure, metering of residential, commercial, and industrial water usage, and billing of all water and sewer utility accounts.
