Recycling in the City of Quincy is a voluntary residential program.   Residents must sign up to participate in the City’s recycling program.   There is a $5.00 monthly charge for participation. 

The City of Quincy provides the first recycling container at no charge.  Residents may purchase a 2nd container for $7.00.  Recycling containers are the property of the City of Quincy.

Recycle Restrictions
Below is a list of acceptable and unacceptable items for recycle disposal.

Acceptable Items

  • Mixed Paper (newspaper, advertising inserts, junk mail, paper egg cartons, telephone books, magazines, catalogs)
  • Cardboard & Paperboard (cereal boxes, frozen food boxes, tissue boxes)
  • Books (remove hardcovers)
  • Aluminum & Tin Cans
  • Plastic Bottles & Containers (water and soda bottles, milk and juice jugs, detergent bottles, plastic tubs). These include numbered plastics: #1, #2, & #5 (these numbers can be found on the bottom of bottles and containers.)

Unacceptable Items

  • #3, #4, #6 and #7 Plastics Including Styrofoam and plastic egg cartons. This number can be found on the bottom of bottles and containers.
  • Plastic Bags (grocery, bread, and dry cleaning bags)
  • Plastic toys
  • Ceramic Mugs, Cookware, or Dishes
  • Mirrors, Windows, or Drinking Glasses
  • Motor Oil Containers
  • Aerosol cans that held spray paint or hazardous materials
  • Vinyl Tubes (Toothpaste Tubes)
  • Soiled Paper Towels or Napkins
  • Building Materials, Scrap Metal
  • Garbage, Food Scraps, or Yard Waste
  • Hazardous Waste, Hypodermic Needles, or Medical Waste
  • Electronics or Light Bulbs                                                   

Recycling Containers at the Curb

The City of Quincy uses split-Stream Recycling, which means all paper & cardboard products should be tied together with string or placed in another City of Quincy recycling container.   Recycling containers may be placed out for collection at the curb, but NOT in the street, no earlier than 6:00 p.m. on the day prior to scheduled collection, and no later than 6:00 am on the day of the collection. Emptied containers must be removed from the curb no later than 6:00 p.m. on the day of collection.
