Driveway Permit

A driveway permit is required anytime a person, firm or corporation constructs a driveway onto street or alley right-of-way.  A permit may be necessary from the Illinois Department of Transportation or Adams County Highway Department if the roadway is under their jurisdiction.

Engineering Department personnel will be able to tell you if the roadway is under another department’s jurisdiction.

Driveways are generally constructed of 6 inch concrete and built to accommodate the sidewalk that adjoins the driveway. The sidewalk should be constructed through the driveway to maintain accessibility.  The removal of existing curbing will be the responsibility of the permit holder.

The Driveway Permit application is available for download or may be picked up in person from the Engineering Department located on the 2nd floor at City Hall, 730 Maine Street.
