It is with great pleasure that I announce that Officer Matt Hermsmeier has been selected as Employee of the Month for the month of August 2012.
Officer Hermsmeier joined the Quincy Police Department on March 23, 1998, and successfully completed Basic Police Training at Belleville Area College Police Academy in Belleville, IL. He is a graduate from Western Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration. Officer Hermsmeier is a Recruiting Officer, Juvenile Officer, Field Training Officer, and a member of the Crisis Intervention Team. He is currently assigned as the School Resource Officer at Quincy Junior High School.
Officer Hermsmeier was nominated & selected for this award due to his exemplary work on a recent sexual assault case. His interview of this male subject was critical to the successful prosecution of this case. The States Attorney stated that when the taped interviewed was played in court, it was “easily the turning point in the case.” According to the State’s Attorney and the presiding judge, Officer Hermsmeier handled the interview brilliantly. The State’s Attorney characterized the subject as “one of the most dangerous people to have ever victimized members of the community” and “one of the more accomplished sociopaths this community has ever seen.” This was obviously a very important case to the safety of our community and Officer Hermsmeier handled all aspects with professionalism. This case is but one example of the great work Officer Hermsmeier routinely performs for this department and the citizens of the City of Quincy.
Please join me in congratulating Officer Hermsmeier for being selected as the Quincy Police Department’s Employee of the Month.
Robert A. Copley, Chief of Police
