How can I find out about working for QFD?The Quincy Fire Department is an Equal Opportunity Employer. The Quincy Fire Department will again be testing for applicants in April 2011. Applications may be obtained around the beginning of February 2011 at the Quincy City Hall or Quincy Central Fire Station. Inquiries should be made to the Quincy Board of Police and Fire Commissioners or the Quincy Fire Department. You may also check for job opportunities online by going to Human Resources. The hiring and promotional process is proctored by a three member Board of Fire and Police Commissioners. They continually maintain a hiring list, which is the sole source of new firefighters. This list, which is replaced every two years, contains the names of candidates who are ranked using a series of objective tests.
To gain a spot on the hiring list, a candidate must fill
out an application, and then successfully complete a
written aptitude test and a task-related physical
fitness test. Performance on these tests are graded and
used to rank candidates within the list.
