More than ten years ago, the City of Quincy began to look for a better way to manage the departments that maintain its  infrastructure. Separate crews were scattered throughout the city, several in garages that were not up to code. An out-dated fleet of vehicles needed to be replaced, and Quincy's growth

called for expanded services and vehicles. The result is the City of Quincy’s Department of Central Services.  General Operations include construction, water, sewer, streets, transit, forestry, paint and sign, garbage and recycling, fleet maintenance and facility management.

The City of Quincy’s Department of Central Services is a 10-acre complex of office, garage and storage space with 54,000 square feet under roof in four buildings.  One hundred and eight employees work in Field and General Operations, which include the departments of construction, water, sewer, streets, forestry, paint and sign, garbage and recycling, fleet maintenance and facility management.
