2010 CENSUS: BE COUNTED IN 2010!

The Census is a count of everyone residing in the United States, conducted every ten years. With only 10 questions, the 2010 Census questionnaire takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.

The 2010 Census is important for three reasons:

  1. It determines the distribution of more than $300 billion annually of government funding for critical community services. Census data is used to determine the location of new housing developments and other community facilities.

  2. It generates thousands of jobs across the country. Census data is used to determine locations for retail stores, schools and hospitals.

  3. It impacts our voice in Congress. Census data determines the boundaries for state and local legislative and congressional districts.

The data collected by the U.S. Census Bureau is confidential. This data is used to produce statistics. Your answers cannot be used against you by any government agency or court. The confidentiality of all your information is protected by the U.S. Code (Title 13) and violating this law is a crime with severe penalties. In addition, other federal laws, including the Confidential Statistical Efficiency Act and the Privacy Act reinforce these protections.
